In Rachelle’s own words:
The bones of the upper big toe joint did not completely fuse together after my last surgery. This caused additional stress on the metal plate that was placed over the toe, and that metal plate has cracked in half. (This happens about 8% of the time.) This time they will graft some bone and bone marrow taken from by my heel to use in the fusion. Surgery is scheduled for May 11. I will be in a splint/cast and non-weight-bearing for 2-4 weeks before transitioning to a walking boot for about 6 weeks.
Please pray for a complete fusion of the toe joint, healing and increased mobility after surgery. For good pain management, that no infection would set in (now two incision sites), and that I would not be anxious about the road to recovery.
